The nurse said to the man: ‘At your age, how do you do that?’.
The man answered: ‘You just have to keep the motor running.’.

Another year passes, and the man carries her back to the hospital, another baby. The same nurse said to the man and asked: ‘You are something else, how do you do that?’.
He said: ‘I told you that you just have to keep the motor running.’

Another year and back to the hospital for another baby. The same nurse said: ‘You are unbelievable, how do you do that?!’.
He said: ‘You got to keep the motor running’.
She answered: ‘Well, you better change oil, because this one came out black!’.

Being a Dacian village, before the Romans conquered Dacia, the teritory was coverd of large forest areas. Thus, it offered a good place for residents to hide from invaders. Alexandru Ștefulescu mentioned in one of his works about Targu-Jiu, that, during the Roman occupation, it was a vicus, a commercial resort.

The city is mentioned for the first time in 1406 as “Jiul”, in a command gave by Mirce cel Batran to Tismana Monastery. Also in the 15th century, the city was  mentioned in historical documents as being a market.

Targu-Jiu is also known as the city of the scuplturer Constantin Brancusi. Here one can find some of his most famous sculptures: The Gate of Kiss, The Table of Silence, The Endless Column.  I should also mention that in Targu-Jiu had lived other individulas who distinguished themselves throughout the history, such as Tudor Vladimirescu or Ecaterina Teodoroiu.

Thus, in order for the current inhabitants to not forget their names, one of the best colleges is Targu-Jiu is called “Tudor Vladmirescu” National College and in the center of the city a monument was constructed in the honor of Ecaterina Teodoroiu. Moreover, the house of Ecaterina Teodoroiu can be found in Targu-Jiu and it is open to public.
